The Lovense Lush 3 is the wearable that made app-controlled long-distance play mainstream, and for two years it was the toy most people recommended for remote-controlled play.

The Lush 4 has since replaced it, with a longer Bluetooth range (105 m against 75 m outdoors, by Lovense's figures) and a longer battery (up to 350 minutes against 220). The Lush 3 still costs $10 less, and for some uses that makes it the better deal.

Who should buy the Lush 3?

Design and ergonomics

The Lush 3 is Lovense's egg-and-antenna wearable: an insertable egg on one end and a flexible antenna that stays outside. Lovense's size drawing gives 96 × 75 mm (3.77 × 2.94 in) overall, with a 37 mm (1.5 in) egg and 76 mm (3 in) of insertable length; Lovense's product page lists the weight at 75 g (2.6 oz).

Wearing it

The egg sits inside against the G-spot while the antenna stays outside along the body, under underwear. The antenna is flexible, so it can follow your shape instead of sticking out.

The 37 mm egg is the same size as the Lush 4's; the Lush Mini's is smaller at 31 mm (1.22 in). It is rated IPX7, so you can rinse it and submerge it to clean it.

Battery life and charging

Lovense rates the Lush 3 at 120 to 220 minutes per charge, depending on the intensity, and a full charge takes 80 minutes. That is over two hours less than the Lush 4 (up to 350 minutes), and Lovense lists no rapid charge for the Lush 3.

Power and performance

Power is the Lush 3's strong point. Buyers on lovense.com rate its vibration power 5.0/5, the same as the Lush 4.

Vibration quality

The motor gives focused, intense vibrations rather than a deep rumble, and the egg puts them on the G-spot. Buyers describe it as a strong G-spot vibrator (see their quotes below).

App and connectivity

The Lush 3 pairs with the Lovense Remote app over Bluetooth. Lovense lists a range of up to 75 m outdoors, against 105 m for the Lush 4, and every feature of the app works with it.

One button: hold it for 3 seconds to switch the toy on or off, and tap it to cycle through the built-in vibration settings. Custom patterns, sound and music sync, and partner or long-distance control need the Lovense Remote app.

Public wear and discretion

The Lush 3 is worn inside, with the flexible antenna outside along the body; snug underwear keeps it in place. It weighs 75 g (Lovense's figure).

Lovense publishes 38 dB at the lowest setting, against 36 dB for the Lush 4, so keep the top settings for private moments.

Care and cleaning

Cleaning

Lovense rates the Lush 3 IPX7, so it can be rinsed under the tap and submerged. To clean it:

1. Rinse it in warm water right after use.
2. Wash it with a toy cleaner or mild soap.
3. Scrub gently around the button.
4. Rinse off all the soap.
5. Pat it dry and let it air-dry completely before you put it away.

The Lush 4 ($129) adds a curved G-spot shape and an LED indicator. Buyers rate the Lush 3 ($119) slightly higher for comfort (4.8/5 against 4.7/5), and some prefer its straighter shape for long wear because it presses less in one spot.

Both run the same Lovense Remote app, long distance included. For $10 more, the Lush 4 adds a longer battery (up to 350 minutes against 220), a 5-minute rapid charge for about an hour of play, a longer Bluetooth range (105 m against 75 m outdoors) and the LED, which cam performers use. Buyers who don't need those, or don't get on with the curve, report the Lush 3 just as satisfying.

Buyers rate its vibration power 5.0/5, the same as the Lush 4. Its quiet score (4.4/5) is the lowest of the three current Lush models; the Lush 4 and the Lush Mini get 4.5/5.

How the Lush 3 does in each use

How well the Lush 3 works depends on how you use it: solo, with a partner in the room, across a continent, on a cam stream or out in public. Below is how it does in each, from what verified buyers report and from its numbers (5.0/5 for power, 4.4/5 for quiet, about 3.7 hours of battery, 75 m of Bluetooth range).

Long-distance relationships

The Lush line was built for long distance, and the Lush 3 handles it well. Once your partner has the control link, control runs through Lovense's servers, so they can drive it from anywhere with internet. The weak point is the Bluetooth link between the toy and your own phone, which reaches less far than the Lush 4's (75 m against 105 m outdoors, by Lovense's figures). If you move around mid-session, with the phone on the nightstand and you on the bed, you're more likely to get a brief stutter; keep the phone within a few feet and you won't. The battery is the bigger limit. About 3.7 hours is fine for a scheduled call and tight for a long weekend morning with a partner nine time zones away.

In-person, partner-controlled

With both of you in the same room, the Lush 3 may be the better value. Bluetooth range barely matters when your partner is an arm's length away. You still get the 5.0/5 vibration power, the flexible neck that keeps the egg on the G-spot when you move, and the shape buyers rate 4.8/5 for comfort over long wear. Foreplay, hands-free play or handing your partner the phone over dinner: the Lush 3 covers all of it, and you don't pay $10 more for range and an LED you won't use.

Cam work and content creation

The Lush 3 still works on Chaturbate, Stripchat and similar sites, where tips trigger it through the Lovense browser extension. This is where the Lush 4 is clearly ahead, though. Its LED tail shows viewers when a tip lands, its 5.8-hour battery covers most of a streaming shift, and a 5-minute rapid charge covers the rest. With about 3.7 hours, the Lush 3 needs a charging break or a second unit for long streams. If you cam for a living, the Lush 4's extra $10 pays for itself; if you stream now and then, the Lush 3 is enough.

Solo and first-time buyers

Solo, the Lush 3's weak points hardly matter. You charge it between sessions at home, your phone is right next to you, and you don't need the LED. You keep a motor buyers rate as highly as the Lush 4's (5.0/5), at the lowest price in the current Lush line. Public and discreet wear

Noise is the number to watch here. Buyers rate the Lush 3 4.4/5 for quiet, the lowest of the three current Lush models (the Lush 4 and Mini get 4.5/5). Inserted, at low or medium intensity, it is hard to hear anywhere with background noise. At full power in a quiet room it can be heard up close. A restaurant, a bar or a walk through a mall is fine; in a silent office or a quiet cinema, stay on the lower settings. If you need silence in very quiet rooms, the Ferri (4.7/5 for quiet) is the better pick.

Who should skip the Lush 3

I'd rather you buy once, so skip the Lush 3 if one of these describes you:

• You're choosing your only wearable and money isn't tight. The Lush 4 costs $10 more and does better on battery, Bluetooth range, charging and the LED; the Lush 3 wins only on price and a slightly higher comfort score. If $129 is within reach, buy the Lush 4.
• You stream for long shifts. About 3.7 hours of battery means charging breaks mid-stream. The Lush 4 lasts up to 5.8 hours.
• You need absolute silence in dead-quiet rooms. Its 4.4/5 quiet score is the lowest of the current Lush models; the Ferri gets 4.7/5.
• You have very petite anatomy or found previous Lush tails uncomfortable. Consider the smaller Lush Mini instead.
• You mostly want external clitoral stimulation. The Lush 3 is an internal G-spot toy. For clit-focused play, a different form factor will suit you better.

Buy the Lush 3 when $10 really matters to your budget, and keep yours if you already own one that works. Otherwise another Lush fits better.

Setup and a stable connection

Bluetooth is the most common Lush 3 complaint, usually as "it keeps disconnecting". Its range is shorter than the Lush 4's (75 m against 105 m outdoors, by Lovense's figures), and most drops come from setup habits you can change, not from a faulty unit.

1. Charge fully before first pairing. A low battery weakens the Bluetooth signal and causes pairing failures that look like a defect. Give it the full ~80 minutes first.
2. Install the Lovense Remote app, not Connect. Remote is the consumer app with full LDR, music sync, and pattern features. Pair from inside it via Bluetooth on first use.
3. Keep your phone within ~3 metres during solo use. Its practical range is shorter than the Lush 4's. Most "random drops" are simply the phone too far away or behind your body, which absorbs the 2.4GHz signal.
4. If it won't reconnect, toggle the toy off and on, then toggle phone Bluetooth. This forces a clean re-handshake and resolves the large majority of mid-session stutters.
5. For long-distance, the host phone holds the Bluetooth link. Your partner controls over the internet, but the link from the toy to your phone is still Bluetooth, so the range rules above apply to whoever is wearing it.

Lush 3 vs. non-Lovense wearables

If you're comparing brands, the two names that come up most are We-Vibe and Satisfyer.

vs. We-Vibe Tango X & Moxie

We-Vibe's strength is the motor: the Tango X bullet is known for its deep rumble, and the Moxie is a strong magnetic panty vibe. The Lush 3 is ahead on the app. Lovense's is more mature for long-distance control, has a much larger library of community patterns and works natively with cam platforms, which We-Vibe's app doesn't focus on. For long distance or camming, the Lush 3 is the better tool. If you want an external bullet with a premium build and don't need long distance, the Tango X is a good alternative. vs. Satisfyer app-controlled range

Satisfyer competes mostly on price, and its app-controlled toys usually cost less than the Lush 3. Its app has a weaker reputation than Lovense's for reliability and long-distance play. For a cheap first toy used solo or with a partner in the room, Satisfyer is worth a look. If the connection has to hold over a long distance, the Lush 3's app is worth paying more for. Final verdict

The Lush 3 scores 8.3 on my grid, below the Lush 4 (8.8) and the Lush Mini (8.4). It has the same app and long-distance control, an IPX7 rating and strong buyer ratings, but a shorter battery (up to 220 minutes), no rapid charge and a louder motor. At $119 it is only $10 cheaper than the Lush 4, so it makes sense mainly if that $10 matters or you already know the Lush 3's shape.
